Raku is a low-fire pottery technique in which the pieces are removed from the kiln with tongs while still hot. They are placed in water, a container of combustible materials, or covered allowing the smoke to permeate the surface.

American Raku has evolved from it's Asian origin. Raku is a technique which was originally developed by Korean potters under Japanese rule in the 16th century.

Raku is for decorative use only. It is very fragile and too porous to be functional.
